Liposuction Side Effects

Liposuction is a very popular cosmetic surgery procedure, and we all know that it can make us slim and smart in hours! But have we ever thought about liposuction side effects? It is a surgical procedure and like every surgery contains some risks – no matter how rare. In the following lines, we will discuss the side-effects of liposuction and some safety tips.

Temporary bruising:

Bruising of the skin, especially around the site of incision, is a common side effect. Fortunately, bruising is temporary and usually resolves in 5 to 12 days. If you feel that bruising is not resolved as it should, contact your surgeon immediately.

Temporary swelling:

The body is flushed with large amounts of fluid during the liposuction procedure. Some of this fluid may be retained by the body causing swelling. This condition is also temporary and resolves within few days.

Temporary numbness:

Numbness of the skin and tissues of the liposuction site is common after the procedure and may take several weeks to resolve completely.

In rare cases, it may result in pain in the muscles and organs especially at the incision site. Painkillers can be taken to relieve pain. If the pain persists, contact your surgeon as soon as possible.

Scarring and sagginess:

Wrinkles, scars, or sagginess may be developed at the site of liposuction. If your skin is not elastic enough, additional surgery may be needed to remove excess skin.

As with every surgery, liposuction has an infection risk associated with it. Although, modern sterilization techniques and use of antibiotics has made it very unlikely to get infections, it cannot be ruled out completely.

Internal bleeding:

Bleeding into the closed space underneath the skin (scientifically known as hematoma), or the serum leakage into closed space under the skin (known as seroma) can occur after the procedure. This risk increases with obesity, excessive liposuction using large cannula, and ultrasonic assisted liposuction.

We have compiled a list of safety tips for you so that you can have a slim figure with minimum chances of liposuction side effects.

Choose a qualified surgeon and good clinic:

This is the greatest safety tip we can give to you. The success of this procedure basically depends on your surgeon. If he is experienced and responsible, he will make sure that you get the best results without any side-effects or complications. The clinic is also important. It must have facilities to handle any situation which may arise during the liposuction procedure.

Strictly follow your surgeon’s instruction:

Following your surgeon’s pre and post-operative instructions is a key to avoid side-effects. Your surgeon will give you instructions about medication, physical activity, and other aspects of pre and post-operative care. Consider them mandatory – not optional.

We are looking forward to see you in slim, smart, and attractive figure!
